- INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR THE SPIRIT OF EUROPE -

- (GAME MANUAL) –


In order to play our game, you need to follow a 2-phase procedure, described below.

1. Itch or Steam account creation & client installation + download of the game (video or text description below)

and

2. Website registration & Initial Assessment (Quiz 1) [UPDATE: NO LONGER REQUIRED]


To proceed with Step 1, please follow the instructions below.

ITCH.IO


Itch.io is one of the main platforms we use to update & deliver content for our game. In order to have access to game updates and patches, the game must be downloaded & installed through the itch client.
*Please note that downloading the game from any other source (this also includes the itch.io website package) will provide you with a game version that cannot be patched.


Correct installation of the game requires:

  1. Itch account

  2. Itch client

  3. Game download through the Itch client

  4. Game presence in the Itch client’s collection tab


Please follow the steps below. 

Step 1. Visit https://itch.io/. 

Step 2. Create an account by clicking on the "Register" button in the top-right corner. Complete all the requested fields.





Step 3. Download & install Itch client. You can download the launcher by accessing https://itch.io/ and pressing the “Download app” button on the main page.




Step 4. After the installation, you can access the launcher by double-clicking on it from your desktop or Start Menu.


Step 5. Once you have started the launcher, you will be greeted by the Log In page. If you previously registered on the itch.io website or you already have an account, simply enter your credentials and press the Log In button.

If you don’t already have an account, you can create a new one by pressing “Register” and following the already provided instructions. (remember to use a proper e-mail address in order to confirm your account after its creation)




Step 6. After logging in, you will be greeted by your Library. This is the place where all of your installed/liked/saved games are listed for your use. 

The launcher acts similarly to a browser. In order to find the Spirit of Europe – Origins page, you can either use the “Search” feature and enter the name of the game (in our case, Spirit of Europe) and select the game from the search results or, you can use a direct link by entering it on the space at the top of the page. Step 7. You can install the game directly to your computer by pressing the “Install” button on the bottom part of the screen then, selecting the desired place of installation.





Step 8. Whilst waiting for the installation to finish, feel free to check the provided information about the game from the Game Page. You can read about the features, check on developer logs and patch notes, check on install instructions and take a look at a bit of visual in-sight. You could even Rate the game by using the “Rate this game” option on the top right of the page.




Step 9. To start the game, either press “Launch” on the bottom part of the screen or, access your Library, select the game and launch it. 

*Note that some required files might be installed on your computer in order for the game to run. They will not interfere with your daily usage.




Step 10. Once the game started, you will have to go through the 2-phase procedure: Website registration & Initial Assessment (Quiz 1). Please see the Enrollment page.

STEAM

Steam is another main platform we use to update & deliver content for our game. In order to have access to game updates and patches, the game must be downloaded & installed through the Steam Application.
*Please note that downloading the game from any other source will provide you with a game version that cannot be patched.


Correct installation of the game requires:

  1. Steam account

  2. Steam application

  3. Game download through the Steam application

  4. Game presence in the Steam app’s library


Please follow the steps below. 


Step 1. Visit https://store.steampowered.com/. 

Step 2. To create an account click on the "Log in" button in the top-right corner. Then, click on the "Join Steam" button. 





Step 3. In order to create the account, please complete all the required fields, check the needed boxes and finally, press the "Continue" button. Then, press the according button considering your age.






Step 4. Verify your email. Check your Inbox or Spam folders and click on the specified link in the email that was sent to you by Steam. Once you will do that, the window below will disappear and you will be taken to the next step. 




Step 5. It is time to set a username and a password for your account. Complete the required fields and press the "Done" button once you are done.




Step 6. You should now be logged in. Look for "The Spirit of Europe - Origins" game (by introducing the name in the search console) or click on this direct link which will get you there: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1689280/Spirit_of_Europe__Origins/. Then, press the "Play Game" button. 




Step 7. The next step is to install Steam Desktop Application. The following image will show up and you need to click on the "No, I need Steam" button. 




Step 8. Install Steam Application by pressing the according button in the window that will appear next (as below).




Step 9. Now follow the installation process (as below).

Step 10. Once Steam Application is installed, we can proceed to the next step - Installation of the game - The Spirit of Europe - Origins. As you already have a Steam account, press the "Login to an existent account" button. (as below)




Step 11. Insert your Steam credentials in order to log into the Steam Desktop Application. 




Step 12. Once you are logged in, in the Library section search for The Spirit of Europe - Origins by writing the name of the game into the search console. Alternatively, you can jump to the Store section and search for The Spirit of Europe - Origins by writing the name of the game into the search console there. 





Step 13. The game will show up in the search results area. So, click on it. 




Step 14. The page of the game will show up, so please click on the "Play Game" button in order to install it. 




Step 15. The installation will start. If you wish the setup to create a start menu or a desktop shortcut, check the related boxes (as in the image below). Please consider that you will need at least 5.10 GB of available space on your hard disk in order to properly install the game. Finally, press the "Next" button to proceed. 



Step 16. Steam will start the installation process as soon as possible if you do not have other games queued in Steam. Press the "Finish" button to proceed.  




Step 17. You can check the download status in the bottom area of the screen (see image below). 




Step 18. Once the download process will start, you can check the progress in the Library section. 




Step 19. Once the game is installed, you can find it in the "Completed" tab. Press the "Play" button to start playing the game. 





Step 20.  In order to perform the first time setup, the Microsoft VC Redist Package might be required to be installed. Wait for the installation to be completed and then play the game! Enjoy!
